5G advantages for live music
The advantage of 5G over existing technologies
5G radio has several advantages over existing radio technologies used in live music.
Reduced interference
5G drastically reduces interference distortion due to point to point connection with directional antennas. In addition to this, the ability to use a mobile network for the audio signal path ensures that no one else will be using those frequencies, so there will be no interference if someone turns on a microwave nearby.
Low latency
WiFi and Bluetooth both have big latency issues. It is possible to overcome this whilst using WiFi under controlled conditions, but it not possible to guarantee these conditions in a large venue where there is the possibility of a large number of WiFi users.
Large bandwidth
5G has up to 10 GB per second available for each point to point connection. The number of point to point connections is only limited by the physical space available. Bluetooth doesn’t even have enough bandwidth for a single lossless FLAC signal.
Location
A 5G directional antenna enables very precise location detection. 3D location detection is possible using just 2 antennas in the same plane, or just 1 antenna if measuring time of flight as well as angle of antenna. Whereas non directional antennas need 3 antennas, 1 in each x, y & z axis, and need to know the relative position of each antenna.
